MYTHS AND HEROES
In a closed circuit, Gerda elaborates a research, full of irony and paradoxes, looking for the “hero”. It passes through European culture and the saints (especially Saint George, the warrior). Faced with the same dilemma, another artist of the period, Hélio Oiticica, called for the heroism of marginality. Gerda mocked the figure of the hero: “mythology, a colorful, mocking commentary, of the need to deify something, to invent and worship a creature with magical powers”, she said.
